John A. Day is a founding member of the firm. John graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1981. He is certified as a civil trial specialist and has over 25 years experience in trying lawsuits. John has served as President of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and Chair of the Council of State Presidents of the American Association for Justice (formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America). John also serves on the boards of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and Lawyers Involved for Tennessee, and has served on the boards of the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the Tennessee Justice Center, a not-for-profit law firm that advocates for Tennessee's poor, particularly on healthcare-related issues.
John was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers at the age of 45, and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1993. He is routinely included in "Best Lawyer" lists in Nashville and Tennessee. Along with Donald Capparella and John Wood, John is the author of Tennessee Law of Comparative Fault and serves as the Founder and Editor of the Tennessee Tort Law Letter, a monthly newsletter about recent developments in Tennessee tort law.
John previously served as the President of the National Board of Trial Advocacy, and has been board-certified in civil trials for over a decade. He is the Past Chair of the Tennessee Supreme Court's Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization and is a Consultant to the Tennessee Judicial Conference's Pattern Jury Instruction (Civil) Committee. He has previously served on the Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission.
In 2006 John was elected to membership in the American Law Institute, the organization that promulgates the Restatements of the law in a myraid of areas.
